The holding of the friendly match between the national teams of Ukraine and Germany on 11 November at the new NSC "Olympic" demonstrates that the major sports arena Ukraine is ready for the finals of the 2012 European Football Championship.

This is being emphasized by journalists of the Euronewschannel, who recently visited the Kyiv euro stadium. Today, after the last several years of reconstruction, the Olympic is an ultra-modern multipurpose venue for top level competition, the main stadium of the future of the continental championship of 2012. It is a facility with a rich history, all 89 years of which have seen it as the heart of the most important sporting events and witnessed legendary Kyiv victories.


1975 was the year in which Dynamo Kyiv became the first Soviet team to win the UEFA Super Cup. "The return game, if I am not mistaken, was in the autumn. Then we won 2-0. We beat Bayern Munich at the ‘Olympic’Stadium", says the former football player of Dynamo and the USSR national team, Volodymyr Muntyan.  

During the Moscow Olympics in 1980 several matches of a football tournament were held at the stadium, which was specially rebuilt for the event. "The Olympics in 1980 opened a window to the West. It was for our Ukraine and the former Soviet Union a remarkable event, because at that time many tourists and fans from various countries came", the former director of the Olympic Stadium, SerhiyDemydov, says.
